We are pleased to announce that Delhi Technological University is organizing a Creative Writing Competition under the aegis of our annual Cultural Fest -Engifest 2011, the theme of which is RESURGENT INDIA. This event seeks to showcase the best talent in written communication amidst the students belonging to different academic backgrounds around the country. We sincerely hope that this event shall facilitate a constructive debate regarding crucial issues affecting the large majority of our country. We repose our trust and faith in the students of this great nation to take forward our heritage of tolerance and enlightened moderation through the black and white fade of ink of their pens.We hope this shall be an endeavor to facilitate introspection amongst the writers and readers alike.Ultimately this event demonstrates our belief that the pen is mightier than the sword. We believe in democratic expression of individual opinions. We may disagree with a particular piece of opinion but we shall die defending the holder of this view's right to express it.
There is something mysterious about creativity. We can describe it, admire it, strive for it and experience it, but we can never understand just how or why a certain innovative idea springs up at a particular time in the mind of a particular individual. Indeed, most people never expect to understand or master that process. The advent of 24 hour television and greater accessibility to the internet has ushered in an era of information, data and opinion overdose. With the easy access to a plethora of media outlets the idea of originality has come to suffer major blows. There ceases to exist an idea of absolute originality anymore. As a wise man once said, it does not matter where you take things from but where you take them to.What is of greater consequence and what we seek to test as a skill sets in our participants is an authentic world view and authentic ideas that reveal the same.
We urge the participants to be forthright in the submission of their articles and ensure that it be truly authentic. The articles submitted shall be posted onto our blog where they shall be open to reader rating and also comments. We also have a panel of people who shall go through each individual entry and determine whether it be truly authentic and not entirely lifted or sourced from source. If the entry is found to uncannily resemble an already existing article, then the panel shall disqualify the entry and the participant shall be charged with copyright violation. Also, all further entries from the institution of the participant shall be debarred and deemed unfit to enter the competition.
This event shall be held in two separate languages - Hindi and English. There shall be three separate sections to each.
1) Essay writing - Articles between 500-700 words shall be acccepted in both Hindi and English. Following are the three topics, the participant shall choose any one of them to express her/himself.
a)Despite the fact that there have been 17,000 farmer suicides in the past year, does the Indian nation show its apathy to them and continue its shameless patronage of the stock markets?
b)Does the current imbroglio, relating to the myriad corruption scandals, serve a constuctive purpose?
c)Is social networking making us social retards?
