Delhi Technological University's Department of Design, which was set up in 2018, embodies the university's forward-thinking vision to integrate technological innovation with human-centred creative solutions. The strategic role of design, driven by innovation, in enhancing national and industrial competitiveness is universally recognized and underpins the national policy of the Government of India. To achieve this vision, the Department of Design was initiated to strengthen quality design education and promote the use of design across various sectors." Department of Design is unique in its approach through the distinctive blend of DTU's prestigious engineering heritage and design thinking methodologies, which gives our students a distinctive educational experience unlike conventional design schools. Through this cross-disciplinary framework, our students can design solutions that are not only aesthetically powerful but also technologically feasible and actionable in practical contexts. Our diverse Faculty are seasoned design practitioners, researchers, and industry professionals with extensive expertise from leading international design schools and successful companies. With specializations in the fields of Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, Fashion Design, and Film Design, the department provides students with education that is theoretically rich and practically applicable to current design challenges. To support these educational offerings, our campus houses specialized facilities, including a Materials Library and Knowledge Resource Center, the Center for Industrial Design & Ergonomics (CIDE), a Materials Workshop with 3D printers, and a Fashion Design Lab with multiple design studios. Simultaneously, Students of the Department of Design are participating and winning National and International positions and recognitions in the field of Design.
Department of Design is committed to striving for excellence in design thinking, design scholarship and design practice for the enrichment of society as a whole. We maintain an active association with industry leaders and Design experts to update our programs to meet industry demands while providing students with real networking opportunities. The department conducts active research in various domains like Inclusive Design for Diverse Indian Demographics, Sustainable Production and Material Processes, Design for Social Innovation, Human-Computer Interaction in the Indian Context, and Traditional Craft and Contemporary Design Integration.
