On behalf of SPIE and Conference chairs of Optics + Photonics 2008, Ms Swati Rawal has been awarded a SPIE contingency Student Travel Grant of 400$ for presenting her paper titled "Dual band wavelength Demultiplexer, consisting of SOI based photonic Crystals: design and Analysis" on 14th August2008, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego California USA.
A zone plate is a device used to focus light. Unlike lenses however, zone plates use diffraction instead of refraction. Created by Augustin-Jean Fresnel, they are sometimes called Fresnel zone plates in his honor. The zone plate's focusing ability is an extension of the Arago spot phenomenon caused by diffraction from an opaque disc.
