PROFILE

Prof. Pravir Kumar is a distinguished academician and researcher with over 22 years of experience in teaching and research, particularly in the areas of vascular biology, molecular neuroscience, and drug discovery. He currently serves as Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Dean of International Affairs at Delhi Technological University (DTU). He has previously held several key administrative/academic positions, including Dean of Alumni Affairs and Head of the Department of Biotechnology at DTU. His research expertise encompasses protein aggregation, molecular chaperones, and ubiquitin E3 ligases in neurodegenerative disorders, along with investigations into aberrant cell cycle re-entry in aging neurons and muscle tissues. Dr. Kumar has an impressive academic record, with over 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, more than 7300+ citations, an h-index of 41, and an i10-index of 80. He has supervised more than 20 Ph.D. scholars and mentored over 150 Master's students. Prof. Kumar earned his M.S. in Molecular and Clinical Genetics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, and completed his Ph.D. at J.W. Goethe University, Germany, focusing on coronary artery diseases and cardiovascular physiology. His postdoctoral research was conducted at the Department of Neurology, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, USA, where he also held a junior faculty position.

Before joining DTU, he served as Associate Professor (SBST) and Assistant Director at the Centre for Medical Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), an Institution of Eminence (IoE).

Prof. Kumar has contributed significantly at the national level as well. He served as a National Expert Member for the Soldiers' Health and Drug Discovery (SHDD) program under the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defense, Government of India. He has been part of several prestigious panels, including the Fulbright Scholarship Selection Committee, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the Ministry of Health. He has also undertaken confidential advisory roles for the Government of India. Additionally, Prof. Kumar serves on the editorial and reviewer boards of over 85 international journals, including those under the Nature Publishing Group and a sole editorial member from India in highly reputed journal Ageing Research Reviews (Elsevier).
