Furthermore, as a scientific member of the prestigious international Programmes Advisory Committee (PAC) of the DST for over 15 years, he was responsible for fostering bilateral cooperation in research programmes with several countries.
Prof. Gurudutta obtained his PhD from the University of Delhi. As a NASA/NABRI post-doctoral fellow in the Mission to Mars project at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), USA, and Brookhaven National Laboratory (NY), USA, he contributed significantly to understanding the effects of high-LET space particle radiation (Ti, Fe, Pr, Si) on human stem cells, as well as to the development of protectors. Additionally, as a FAPESP post-doctoral fellow at the University of São Paulo, he made significant contributions to understanding the role of the middle-T antigen of the polyoma virus in the proliferation of glioblastoma cells. He was also awarded the NRC (Canada) post-doctoral fellowship.
Further, during his long tenure at the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Delhi, he made several pioneering and original contributions to molecular stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, tissue engineering, molecular signalling, and particularly to clinically relevant human stem cell response and fate research. In this line, he spearheaded major R&D projects with DRDO mandate and achieved several milestones, including the development of novel human stem cell targeting, shielding nano-formulations, NMR 7-9 Tesla (Medical) SC-tracking methods, several fate-modifying molecules, and composite-biomaterial-based devices to enhance the application potential of stem cells in therapeutics. He has published more than 100 research articles in high-impact international and national journals, over 100 conference presentations, and holds over 12 granted or registered patents with i10-index of 44/h-index 25. More than 20 PhD scholars and numerous masters and graduate students have benefited immensely from his dedicated supervision and guidance.
The originality and translational impact of his work are highlighted by several remarkable milestones:
