Born in August 1967 in Uttar Pradesh, India, Prof. Naveen Kumar completed his B.E. from Dayal Bagh Educational Institute, Agra, an M.Tech. from IIT Delhi, and a Ph.D. from the University of Delhi. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), UK, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (FIE), and a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council (CEng), UK. His research interests encompass alternative fuels, particularly biofuels, decentralized energy systems, renewable energy, climate change, waste recycling, and sustainable development.

Prof. Kumar has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Delhi Technological University (Formerly Delhi College of Engineering) since 1996, bringing over 34 years of experience across academia, industry, and research. He possesses extensive administrative experience, having held various leadership roles, including Head of the Department, Dean of Students' Welfare, Dean of International Collaboration, Proctor, Coordinator, TEQIP II Project, and Chairman of the Board of Discipline, Cultural Council, Central Purchase Committee, and B.Tech. Admission Committee.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels, Prof. Kumar has made significant contributions to research and development in alternative fuels for off-road engines and vehicles. He has successfully undertaken sponsored research projects from governmental and industrial organizations, including the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, and Yanmar Co. Ltd., Japan. He served as the principal consultant for a World Bank-sponsored project titled "Fences for Fuel" in India and participated in an Indo-Spanish collaborative project.

Prof. Kumar has authored more than 140 research papers (65+ in SCI-indexed journals and more than 60+ in Scopus) and published over 100 papers in Indian journals and conferences. He has also written nine books and book chapters. Under his supervision, 17 Ph.D. scholars have been awarded degrees, with more than five currently pursuing their research. Additionally, he has guided 51 M.Tech. students in completing their projects and degrees.

His research work has been presented at universities, research organizations, and industries worldwide, including prestigious institutions such as the University of Minnesota, University of South Florida, University of North Texas, University of Murcia, Kongju National University, Korea Institute of Energy Research, Yonsei University, and the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology. Prof. Kumar has completed over 20 scholarly visits abroad. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Biofuels and as Associate Editor of Energy Sources Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects. He is also a member of the editorial boards of various journals and a reviewer for numerous publications from ASME, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, and SAE.

Prof. Kumar exemplifies the qualities of a distinguished academic, exemplary researcher, visionary educational administrator, and professional consultant, fostering industry interaction with a positive attitude. He envisions an educational system that offers a flexible and innovative curriculum, effectively balancing theoretical knowledge with practical skills, management, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. He advocates for infrastructure modernization and faculty motivation as essential components of a world-class institution. He emphasizes the optimal utilization of resources to reduce costs in higher technical and vocational education. He was previously selected as the Director of Bundelkhand Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jhansi (a government institution in Uttar Pradesh). He has also been offered the position of director at KIET, Ghaziabad.

He is also the founder of the Centre for Advanced Studies & Research in Automotive Engineering at DTU, a pioneering Centre in Alternative Fuels & Renewable Energy Research.
