Department of Information Technology Organized IPR meets IT on Oct, 25-26, 2010

Workshop organized by Department of Information Technology on 25th and 26th October titled “Intellectual Property Rights meets Information Technology was a huge success. We received mass participation from students and professors alike from many universities. There were also a huge number of students and teachers from our own university.

First and foremost we wish to thank you from the bottom of hearts to have provided us with all the required finds and permissions on such a short notice. We are indeed very grateful to you sir.

The workshop was conducted on 25th and 26th October, the chief guest and the opening speaker for the workshop was Dr. Bhooshan P. Kelkar, Country Manager, IBM University Relations, IBM India Ltd. He gave a very interesting lecture on “Usefulness of IPR in academics”.  Dr. Kelkar gave a very enlightening speech and corrected us in our presumption and narrow outlook on the importance of patents as against publications.

Our next speaker for the opening day was Mr. Abhishek Malhotra an Advocate in Intellectual Property and ancillary services. He spoke on “Intellectual Property in the Information Technology Era Challenges and Opportunities”.

Our final speaker on the opening day was Ma’am Debra A. Beauregard, Director of Graduate

Programs, Franklin Pierce Centre for Intellectual Property, University of New Hampshire School of Law. She spoke about PG programs in IPR to take up IPR as a career.

 The second day was as eventful and enlightening as the first.

The first speaker was Mr. B.N. Ojha, Ex Director, NTPC. He spoke about the implications of Intellectual Property Rights in the Public Sector.

The second speaker was Mr. Tarun Khurana, Patent Attorney, Khurana and Khurana, Advocates and IP Attorney IIPRD. He spoke about intellectual property as a commercial asset and its importance in defining companies’ assets.

The final speaker of the workshop was Mr. Sujit Thakur. He enlightened us with his words on the theme innovation and intellectual property.
