India is one of the largest producers of polymeric materials. The
Indian Plastic Industry
alone has been growing at a rate of 12-15% per annum. It is also set
to reach the 12.5 MMT
consumption mark making India the third largest consumer of
plastics by 201O. To match
this figure, India would require 30,000 new machines and around 10
billion US $ of project
investment. Thus, the polymer industries shall need trained
technical manpower with the
vision for the future. From the last one decade, Delhi College of
Engineering is primarily
focusing its attention to the
(a) development of skilled and educated manpower;
(b) up-gradation and expansion of technical knowledge;
(c) application & development of new polymer materials;
(d) technical consultancy and advisory services;
(e) quality control and standardization techniques;
The above-mentioned objectives are fairly covered in our technical
festival TATVA-09
being organized by teachers, students and experts of Polymer
Science & Chemical
Technology and Applied Chemistry. In TATVA technical festival,
eminent scholars,
consultants, professionals, technocrats, scientists and industry
experts come together on a
common platform and share their wisdom and experience with
students during various
sessions. TATVA-2009 will go a long way in providing a forum for
deliberations on the
growth strategies, emerging technologies, development
opportunities and issues faced by
the polymer industry during the prevailing recession period. I appeal
to the participants to
devote their attention to R & D projects, entrepreneurial projects
and join hands for the
growth of the society and the country. I convey my best wishes to
the participants.
