ABOUT

Dr. A.K. Madan is a highly accomplished academician, researcher, and technologist with more than four decades of combined industrial, research, and teaching experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Systems, CAD/CAM, Automation, Robotics, and Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS). With over 200 research papers published in reputed international journals and conferences, he is widely recognized for his contributions to advanced manufacturing, optimisation techniques, AI-driven machining systems, industry 4.0 applications, and engineering education quality enhancement.

He began his professional journey in the manufacturing industry, working with world-class companies such as GEC Machines Ltd. (UK), KG Khosla Compressors, Empire Industries, and international technology partners like Deckel Germany, Zeiss Germany, STAM Italy(Viz BHEL Haridwar, RCF Kapurthala, and OFD Dehradun etc). His industrial roles included advanced CNC programming, APT programming, CAM development, CMM integration, automation systems, commissioning of CNC and roll-forming lines, tool engineering, and product development. His 10 years of industrial experience provided a strong foundation in high-precision manufacturing technologies and large-scale engineering project execution.

Transitioning to academia in 1991 through UPSC with five special increments, he joined Delhi Technological University (formerly DCE) and served across all academic ranks—Lecturer, Senior Scale, Selection Grade (Assistant Professor), Associate Professor, and Professor. Over a span of more than 34 years in teaching, he has taught a wide spectrum of courses including Computer-Aided Manufacturing, CAD/CAM, FMS, CIM, NCMT, Robotics, advanced manufacturing systems, and production engineering at B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D levels. He has guided numerous Ph.D scholars, over a hundred M.Tech dissertations, and several major research and industrial projects.

He has also played a pivotal role in academic administration, serving on the Academic Council, departmental boards, curriculum development committees, NBA accreditation activities, and university-level development programs. As coordinator of the CAM/Robotics/Automation (ALTAIR) Lab at DTU, he contributed significantly to laboratory establishment, equipment procurement, and technical training. He has organized national and international workshops, FDPs, industrial collaborations, student competitions, and innovation-driven technical events, strengthening the research ecosystem of the university.

Dr. Madan’s research areas include soft computing, meta-heuristic optimisation, FMS scheduling, lean manufacturing, CNC machining optimisation, additive manufacturing, robotics kinematics, AI and machine learning for manufacturing systems, IoT-enabled machining, Industry 4.0, sustainable production, hybrid optimisation algorithms, digital manufacturing technologies, and battery technology. His publications span leading journals including Elsevier, Springer, IJARET, IJREI, IJARI, IJAEM, IRJET, and many international indexed conferences. Several of his papers have also been shortlisted for Springer publication.

His expertise extends to simulation, ANSYS-based machining analysis, tool wear prediction systems, computational modelling, autonomous vehicle design, advanced machining research, and implementation of AI/ML in CAM and manufacturing. He has contributed to breakthrough topics such as hybrid firefly algorithms, genetic algorithms, artificial bee colony methods, multi-objective scheduling, AGV systems, IoT-based machine monitoring, and industrial data analytics.

Beyond academics, he has significantly contributed to skill development and technical training for students, organized technical workshops in emerging technologies, supported robotics and Formula Student teams, and collaborated with industry to promote practical and innovative engineering solutions. His long-standing commitment to technical education is reflected in his extensive work on quality improvement models, ranking frameworks, and technology-driven education research.

With a distinguished career marked by excellence in teaching, impactful research, industrial expertise, and continuous innovation in manufacturing technologies, Dr. A.K. Madan stands as a leading expert and thought leader in mechanical and manufacturing engineering, inspiring generations of engineers, researchers, and innovators.
